WHEREAS: The use of clean, renewable energy sources such as wind and biomass, has many benefits including increased revenues for school districts, greater income for local agricultural producers, and the creation of good paying construction, manufacturing and installation jobs;
WHEREAS: Increasing investment in clean, renewable energy production in Indiana helps to increase energy independence on a state, regional and national level;
WHEREAS: Increasing investment in Indiana-based renewable energy production helps to improve the quality of our air, water and soil, and thereby improve public health;
WHEREAS: Indiana possesses substantial renewable energy resources and is poised to be a regional leader in wind and bio-energy development; and
WHEREAS: A Renewable Electricity Standard would create a favorable business climate for investment in renewable energy resources.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by [Name of the Organization]:
That [Name of the Organization] supports a statewide Renewable Electricity Standard to promote investment in renewable energy in Indiana.
That such a standard calls for utilities to purchase a growing proportion of their energy from renewable energy, reaching 10% of electric generation by 2017.
